UPSC Civil Services IAS / IFS Pre Online Syllabus

The UPSC Civil Services IAS / IFS Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) and carry a maximum 400 marks. 

The question will be asked from below subjects in Paper 1: –

  • Current events of national and international importance.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement
  • Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Right Issues.
  • Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives.
  • General Issues on Environmental ecology, Bio – Diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
  • General Science.

The question will be asked from below topics in Paper 2 :-

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision making and problem solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy (Numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class 10th Level).
  • Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc.) (Class 10th Level).

Paper 2 of the Civil Services Preliminary examination will be a qualifying paper. Minimum 33 % marks will be required to qualify.

UPSC Civil Services IAS / IFS Pre FAQ’s

Ans. Only black ball pen only allowed for both writing and marking answers in the OMR Sheet.

Ans. One-third of the marks assigned as a penalty for each wrong answer.
